Meet our new guest for the "Running in Berlin with..." series, Lena. An inspiring and dedicated runner, Lena is a very important member of our running club. Read her story below about how she started to run and the place running has in her life.
I first joined the O.R. running club in January when I made a New Year's resolution to join more social runs. Almost half a year has passed and I keep coming back! From cold and grey winter days to hot summer mornings, Saturday 9am has become an important date in my weekly schedule. And the coffee chats afterwards, of course!

“For me, running is about connection: with my own body and mind, and with like-minded people”

My running story started early as I joined the local track and field club in my hometown as a child. My mother was a member of the running club and was my biggest idol as we always went to cheer her on at the races. In my teenage years I had many different things on my mind, but I rediscovered my passion for running during the lockdown.
Running means a lot to me as it’s always been a huge part of my life. For me, running is about connection: with my own body and mind, and with like-minded people. I’ve probably made more friends running then at networking event. I've probably made more friends running than at a networking event.
Running is the best because it's so simple. It's all about putting one foot after the other. Staying in the flow gives your mind the space to run free. When I run fast, my mind slows down as it's my safe space and a way of moving that I always feel comfortable with. I can't even remember if I've ever regretted going for a run.

“Running in Berlin has taught me that running is not just about competition”

Running in Berlin has taught me that running is not just about competition. Berlin has a beautiful and welcoming community of runners where it doesn't matter who you are or where you're from because it brings together people who share the same passion.
Running in the city has given me a different perspective and allowed me to explore many beautiful places. Berlin offers so many routes that it never gets boring, even on the longest runs.
Decent colours, loose fits and lightweight fabrics that make me feel comfortable and allow me to focus on my run rather than worrying about the fit are my favourite choices. The lighter the clothes feel, the easier and faster I feel when running.
