Running in Cape Town with PETER

Project | February 10

We met Pieter last August when he visited our store. We had a little chat and invited him to join our running club the next day, and he replied: "I don't know guys, I wanted to go clubbing tonight. We'll see tomorrow". The next morning we were running together in Volkspark Friedrichshain.
"It's not merely about physical activity. It's a holistic approach to well-being."

Optimistic and disciplined, I lead a multifaceted life as a pharmacist in Cape Town. Balancing my professional commitments, I actively support the arts, maintain a regular exercise routine, and cherish moments with friends. A connoisseur of good food, I am deeply passionate about music, fashion, and art, with a penchant for indulging in my greatest pleasure—traveling. My life motto is to always be true to yourself and create a life that works for you.
In the early years of primary school I had a strong desire to sprint the 100m, but unfortunately I lacked the speed. A turning point came when our neighbour started training me for longer distances, and soon I became my school's 3000m champion. Since then, my love for running has only grown and I haven't stopped hitting the pavement.
"If everyone incorporated some form of exercise into their lives, the world would undoubtedly be a happier place."
"In Cape Town, I find solace in solitary runs"
For me, running is a journey into my own private universe, accompanied by the rhythm of my favourite music. This escape allows me to indulge in one of my guilty pleasures - eating chocolate - knowing that the calories are being burned on the road. Running is my equilibrium, a pursuit that harmonises my mind and body. It's not just about physical activity; it's a holistic approach to wellbeing. If everyone incorporated some form of exercise into their lives, the world would undoubtedly be a happier place.
In Cape Town, I find solace in solitary runs, often revisiting the same routes to measure my progress and immerse myself in the music and rhythm. Running in a group overseas, on the other hand, is a joy, with the opportunity to explore new routes and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Running with Optimistic Runner in Berlin left an indelible mark on me.

I prioritise quality, cut and colour in my wardrobe choices. Discovering Optimistic Runner was a revelation; their clothes exude beauty, sensuality and simplicity, striking the perfect balance between style and comfort. I believe in feeling like myself, even in my running clothes.
